Hunting and Fishing Tournaments | | Fishing | | In 2005, we held our 1st Chick-Owa Family Fishing Tournament on Saturday June 11. We chose to hold the tournament on June 11th because it was the Saturday of the Michigan DNR Free Fishing Weekend. This enabled people, who do not normally fish, to fish without a license. We had 18 participants and many prizes to be won and drawn for as door prizes. Everyone had a great time. We started at the clubhouse with a pancake breakfast. Following breakfast, everyone headed for their favorite fishing hole in either Allegan or Ottawa Counties. Everyone returned by noon check in to count, measure, and weigh their fish. While the winners were determined, everyone enjoyed burgers off the grill. We ended the afternoon with a prize drawing for the donated gifts including a Charter Fishing Trip for 4 from All Sport Fishing. The fishing tournament received such a great response that we decided to hold The Chick-Owa Family Fishing Tournament every June on the Saturday of the Michigan DNR Free Fishing Weekend. We are also planning to hold a Winter Fishing Tournament on the Michigan DNR Free Fishing Weekend in February (February 17, 2007). | | | |
| Rabbit Hunting | | It didn’t take a lot of thought to decide that we should put on a Rabbit Hunting Tournament. In January of 2006 we held our first Rabbit Hunting Tournament. We immediately planned our 2nd tournament for February. Both tournaments were a big hit. We kicked off with a pancake breakfast at the clubhouse. Everyone headed out to their favorite rabbit hunting hot spot and returned by noon to check in. After check in, we all enjoyed Rabbit Stew, Chili, and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches for lunch. There were 3 teams that limited out with ten rabbits. The three way tie was broken by weighing the rabbits. The tournaments are set up for Two Gun Teams. You may take your dog(s) or you may take your kid(s) to push the rabbits out of the brush, but only two guns may be used. Rabbit Hunting Tournaments for the 2006-2007 Season began on October 28, 2006. There are 5 total Rabbit Hunting Tournaments. The second one was held on December 9, 2006. There are three left to 06-07 season. These tournaments will take place on January 13, February 10, and March 10 of 2007. Each Hunt day ends with a skinning party at the clubhouse. | |
| Crow Hunting | | March of 2006 marked the first Crow Hunting Tournament for the Chick-Owa sportsman’s Club. The Chick-Owa Crow Hunting Tournaments are run similar to the Fishing Tournaments and the Rabbit Hunting Tournaments with the exception of breakfast. We do not gather for breakfast before the Crow Hunting Tournaments. Due to the nature, and the time of year, of Crow Hunting, we let the participating teams begin at daybreak and check in by noon on the date of the tournament. We finish the day with lunch at the clubhouse. The winners are determined first by number and then by weight if there is a tie. If your interested in participating in a Crow Hunting Tournament, our Fall Tournament is being held on Saturday, September 30, 2006. Our Spring Tournament will be held on March 3, 2007. You can register for the shoot by downloading the Registration Form found by following the link and mailing it to the address listed. |
| Squirrel Hunting | | | On January 20, 2007, The Chick-Owa Sportsman’s Club will host its first Squirrel Hunting Tournament. The Squirrel Hunting Tournament will be formatted the same as the Rabbit Hunting Tournaments at the Chick-Owa Sportsman’s Club. The day of the tournament will begin with a Pancake Breakfast at the Clubhouse. All participants will head out to their favorite location to hunt squirrels and return to the clubhouse by 12:00pm for final check-in. After check/ weigh in, everyone is welcome to stay for lunch and a skinning party. For registration information, Go to our Hunting Tournament Registration Page and download the appropriate pdf.
